Apple’s iOS 26 developer beta introduces a feature for FaceTime that stops video and audio if nudity is detected during a call. When this happens, the screen displays a message saying the content may be sensitive. Users then see two choices: resume the call or end it.

Apple announced plans in June to expand family safety features in iOS 26. These updates look to reduce unsafe interactions for children using iPhones.

Reports from early testers show that this FaceTime pause works even if users try to turn it off in settings. Apple might set the feature to activate by default for users under 18. Some testers say it is off by default for adults, but the experience may differ.

People have raised questions about how much skin triggers the warning. It is not clear if small actions like removing a jacket could activate it.

Privacy concerns have also come up. Some believe Apple could be watching FaceTime calls. Apple says that’s not the case. The company explains that all checks happen on the device. Machine learning reviews images and video on the iPhone itself to spot nudity. Apple does not get notifications or copies of flagged calls, photos or videos. Encrypted FaceTime calls stay private.

The public beta for iOS 26 is expected in mid-July. A final release will likely arrive around mid-September, in time for the iPhone 17 launch.

iOS 26 also brings a new Liquid Glass interface. This design uses rounded corners and transparent backgrounds throughout the system. Microsoft recently compared this update to the look of Windows Vista.

“If you feel uncomfortable, you should end the call.” Get clear options to resume audio and video or end the call with one click.
