Meta and Oakley Launch Smart Glasses with 3K Video Recording

Meta has revealed its latest smart glasses, teaming up with Oakley for a limited-edition Oakley Meta HSTN model. Priced at $499, the glasses are available for preorder starting July 11. More Oakley options with Meta’s features will be released later this summer, beginning at $399.

The Oakley Meta HSTN comes with a front-facing camera, open-ear speakers, and built-in microphones. Once synced with a phone, you can stream music, take calls, or chat with Meta AI. The glasses use their camera and mics to help Meta AI answer questions about your surroundings and translate languages in real-time.

Meta is marketing these glasses to athletes. They have an IPX4 water resistance rating and double the battery life of the Meta Ray-Bans, lasting up to 8 hours on one charge. The charging case extends use up to 48 hours. The upgraded camera now records in 3K, an improvement from the Meta Ray-Bans’ 1080p resolution.

The lineup includes five frame and lens combinations, all compatible with prescription lenses for an extra fee. Customers can choose from warm grey, black, brown smoke, or clear frames, with several lens types available, including transitions. The $499 limited-edition model features gold accents and gold Oakley PRIZM lenses. The glasses will be sold in the US, Canada, UK, Ireland, France, Italy, Spain, Austria, Belgium, Australia, Germany, Sweden, Norway, Finland, and Denmark.

Meta recently signed a long-term deal with EssilorLuxottica, which owns Ray-Ban and Oakley. Meta’s Ray-Ban smart glasses have sold over two million pairs so far, and EssilorLuxottica plans to reach 10 million pairs sold each year by 2026. Alex Himel, Meta’s head of wearables, calls this launch the company’s first move into performance eyewear, hinting at more products in the future.
